5 Things Meme: Favorite Song

This entry is part 5 of 5 in the series 5 Things Meme

Comment to this post saying "FIVE!" and I will pick five things I would like you to talk about. They might make sense or be totally random.

Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself, hopefully for the rest of eternity!

From arliddian: Current Favourite Song

I'm supposed to pick? Hm... I wonder if people who ask such questions listen to much music, but for the sake of experiment, I shall try to narrow down my multitude of favorites to something manageable.

My Favorite Things

Carol of the Bells

One of my favorite songs of all time is the Carol of the Bells. I have always loved bells. I cannot describe what it is about the quality of their sound that resonates with me, but it does. So much.

Hark! how the bells, sweet silver bells
All seem to say, throw cares away
Christmas is here, bringing good cheer
To young and old, meek and the bold

Ding, dong, ding, dong! That is their song
With joyful ring, all carolling
One seems to hear words of good cheer
From everywhere, filling the air

Oh, how they pound! raising the sound
O'er hill and dale, telling their tale
Gaily they ring while people sing
Songs of good cheer, Christmas is here!

Have a merry, merry, merry Christmas
Have a merry, merry, merry Christmas

On, on they send, on without end
To every home, their joyful tone

I have never been able to find this song as long as I want it to be. Not with the artist(s) singing it anyway. I own about five or six different versions of this song: two medleys with lyrics—beautiful and three or so instrumental, which are lovely and long enough to suit me (greater than two minutes), but I still want a version that's four plus minutes with lyrics.

In Closing

This is not my altogether favorite song, and I have not listened to it often recently, but as my mind surveys my favorites right now to sing and my favorites right now to listen to and my favorites right now to write by, I simply cannot narrow down that list. It is endless, boundless, comprised of multiple genres of Christian pop, Christian praise, classical instrumental, Handel's Messiah, Celtic music, an adorable rollicking song about gluten— Wait a second. That one must be shared.

Sung at the 2012 Reformation of Food and Family Conference by its composers: Cody and Jesse Winton and Josh Phillips. I do not know all the lyrics, but it doesn't stop me from singing this over and over and over. (I am gluten-sensitive; I can empathize.)

Gluten, you're the devil
Been leading me astray
It seems you are not needed
Not in Americay
You're just a rotten, protein thing
At least that's what they say
Oh! gluten, you're me darling in me pancakes!

Don't take my pizza from me
If you do, I'll torment you
And if I die, I'll haunt you up
Fare thee well
[scat]
Ah, me laddies! There is gluten in the pie!

It continues from there. :grins:
